For Katrina

THE ASSIGNMENT:
Design a Nationwide Insurance Billboard using a famous person who resembles
your "personal voice." Must be done with mixed materials and be a relief (the projection of forms or figures from a flat ground, so that they are partly or wholly free of it).

I chose Theodor Seuss Geisel (AKA Dr. Seuss).

PART 1:

Research: KNOW your man

Part 2:
Composition sketches and color scheme

Part 3:

Technique Study: Play with different materials to see what works best.

The left Thing was done using sculpey(clay like stuff), paint, and a boa.

The right Thing was done using cardboard, felt, and marker.

The letters were done using cardboard, sculpey and felt.

Part 4:

Execute idea to full size (16x20") in finished form.

The final was done using sculpey, paint, paper, cardboard, and a boa (for the fun hair!).

Part 5:

Take photo of billboard with light source.

Kat only asked to see the finished piece, but I decided to show her the whole process. ^_^

I LOVE YOU, MY LOVELIES! ^_^

i love it! thank you thank you! You should totally pitch it to nationwide.. they would LOVE it and could totally afford the copyright permission fees. In fact, if I ever decide to get into advertising, I think you and I would make an excellent team-- you with the artistic witty ideas, and me doing the wheeling and dealing : ) Love you
