Call me Squirrel Killer

It was a lovely morning, the sun was big and orange as it slowly rose higher into the sky. I was listening to The Zombies as I drove down Kingston Avenue. I noticed without much surprise that a squirrel ran into the street, about two car lengths before me. This happens every morning on the way to school, many squirrels scamper into the road, they either run to the opposite side or hurry back the way they come.
So I wasn't concerned because the squirrel would run one way or the other. He didn't disappoint me, he decided to head for the other side (my right). But paused in the middle of the road and ran back the way he came. Which is alright, he still would have made it safely out of the road. But then he paused again and headed back the other way. That is when I became concerned, knew he wasn't going to make it. A second after that, I passed over him. I heard the thump and felt the bump of his little body as my front left wheel rolled over him. I looked in my rearview mirror to confirm his death and saw his little white belly facing heaven.
I felt a little bad about this, after saying aloud a few times, "I just killed a squirrel." I didn't cry or anything, but I still felt bad about needless slaughter of one of God's little creatures. Even if it was accidental, but I wasn't about to swerve or hit the breaks to save his life.
But I've heard it said that, "Squirrels are just rats with fuzzy tails." And now I get to add "Squirrel Killer" to my title. ^_^

LOTS OF LOVE FROM ME!
